Zero Hour Movie Reviews: Dead Within

Sometimes a horror film can be much more terrifying when the horror itself is left to the viewers imagination. This is especially true to films that have a tight budget, in which the director has to become clever with the way the movie reveals it's scares. Too much CGI can lead to the audience finding the movie laughable instead of scary. Dead Within is a movie that is very original with it's scares, I found it to be a very entertaining watch despite being low budget. Similar to Pontypool (film) the movie is filmed in one location, where the characters are faced with a unseen zombie threat. Rather then focusing on the undead hordes, the viewer is instead a witness to the paranoia the encompasses the lives of a young couple holding up in their barricaded cabin. From the start I found the movie to be very intriguing, which is why I happily give Dead Within a four out of five stars. If you liked Pontypool (film) then you should definitely give this one a shot!

Zero Hour Movie Reviews: How I Live Now

There have been plenty of times I wanted to give a movie a chance regardless of what my gut instincts told me. Despite the mixed reviews I had heard on ZEDD Radio, How I Live Now is one movie that made me regret the time I invested into it. Essentially, this post apocalyptic movie is about a grumpy teenager who moves to a farm where her cousins live. What unfolds next is the same tired formula of the reluctant "cool" adolescent who falls in love with the charming "uncool" country folk. The only horrifyingly original thing about this movie is the creepy love story featuring the main character falling in love with her cousin. I am not sure how the viewer should feel about this relationship, however it was definitely disturbing and kind of gross. Despite the romanticized incest relationship, the rest of the story could be considered your typical young adult love story. I really wanted to like this story since I like the post apocalyptic genre, however the love story was just awful. I seriously can not recommend How I Live Now, which is why I disappointingly give it a one out of five stars.

 

Here comes a new challenger!!

Hello everyone! My name is Gabriel Zero, some of you might recognize me from my Twitter or Facebook posts on popular Zombie Radio Network pages. Over the last seven or eight months I have been very active on the social networking pages for ZEDD Radio, Zombie Anonymous, and numerous other post apocalyptic podcasts. For those who don't know who I am, I am a big zombie apocalypse junkie and I enjoy sharing my thoughts on all types of post apocalyptic media. Whether it is movies, video games, board games, comic books, or funny YouTube clips I hope you find something of interest in my review column. I have Thorn to thank for this opportunity to share my thoughts with other fans, he enjoyed my Facebook postings recently and invited me to share my thoughts with Zombie Radio Network. I will do my best to make this a regular weekly habit.

                    Adventure Time is post apocalyptic? You bet it is. 

Some interests of mine include video games similar to The Last of Us, novels like Swan Song, and all types of post apocalyptic movies. I enjoy serious films like The Road, but I really like to discover obscure independent ones like Pontypool. I also am very fond of animated films and short films, if you have any recommendations please feel free to send them my way. This hobby of mine is why I tune into so many different podcasts, I always enjoy discovering new titles to look up. My latest compulsion has been binge watching gamers playing zombie video games on YouTube. For those who don't know there are a ton of independent video games on Steam, most of them don't appear on the X-Box or Playstation systems. If you are a player who absolutely refuses to learn how to play a game using a keyboard and mouse, the alternative is to watch others play it on YouTube. 

It isn't as boring as it sounds though. Check out the first 15 minutes of this hilarious game called Zombies on a Plane. The game is absolutely silly.
